Release of The Promise:Children of Annwn.

This moment has been a long time coming, and I couldn't be happier now it's finally arrived!
My debut YA romantic light fantasy is being released this Friday 26th September, as an e-book and then in March 2014 as a paperback.
Needless to say, I want to start the celebrations now and have an on-line event planned for the 29th September, 2014. I am hosting alongside several of my author friends who will also be talking about their books.
There will be some Q&A sessions, games, and competition with two copies of my book up for grabs and some Amazon gift cards.
I could really do with your support and hope to see you there.Any questions let me know!

                                           Excerpt from Chapter One!
The bell over the front door at Felicities jingled every time a gust of wind blew, and Mia glanced over as tingles exploded down her spine. The diner hummed with animated conversation and the aroma from the bubbling espresso machine.

All seemed normal, but she knew it wasn’t. Something was lurking, whispering inside her head, and scratching under her skin to be free.

Which could only mean one thing: trouble with a capital T.

You Can Be Whatever You Want To Be!
by Donna Levine
There is inside you
All of the potential
To be whatever you want to be;
All of the energy
To do whatever you want to do.
Imagine yourself as you would like to be,
Doing what you want to do,
And each day, take one step
Towards your dream.
And though at times it may seem too
difficult to continue,
Hold on to your dream.
One morning you will awake to find
That you are the person you dreamed of,
Doing what you wanted to do,
Simply because you had the courage
To believe in your potential
And to hold on to your dream.

This link will take you directly to the event and please sign up, so that I know you will be             attending.

Behind the story.

With the expected release date of the 26th SEPTEMEBER for THE PROMISE:CHILDREN OF ANNWN I wanted to reflect over how it all began.

Behind the story of The Promise.

In 2009,  I moved from Wales back to New England. I had relocated there in 2001 with my husband's job, but I had only ever in my heart decided that this would be a short term move whilst the children were young.

However, as anyone who has moved and lived abroad will know, many things change and when you return home neither you or the place is the same. Therefore, in 2009 I was once again back in the states.

As I sat in the garden of my new home and pondered what I had done again as I had left behind my oldest son, who was twenty, my aging mother, my sisters who could barely speak to me at the time and my nephews, I was in a dark and lonely place. For a while, I shut myself off to the world and contemplated my life, my future and what that would entail.

So whilst my kids frolicked in their new Gunite swimming pool in the middle of August, I sat there and penned my first ever romantic novel.

My mind was full of ideas and a story came to life very easily, and I supposed I poured my heart out to start off with. I always found writing therapeutic and when I read over what I had written a lot of pent-up  feelings, and emotions filled the pages.

My only clear view of the story at that time, which in the beginning had no title and has changed twice in the course of five years, was the picture of a young woman stood upon the shores of her home saying good-bye.  Mia as the character became known was tall, slim, and her hair flowed behind her. She stood reminiscing over the reasons she was leaving, and as she sobbed, the waves crashed against the shore. Then,  a breathtakingly handsome man strolled over the sand and stands behind her rubbing her arms and whispering that it was time!

I saw that scene as clear as day and have spent the past five years crafting and perfecting the story. In the beginning, I had a flurry of ideas for the plot but making sure that what I wanted to say transpired into something one could read was another story. I did what I believe a lot of writers do, I simply kept writing whilst the story unfolded inside my brain, I let the characters perform and sometime drift! Only stopping when the story concluded.

Afterwards when I read the entire manuscript, I realized several things, NEVER show anyone until you are happy with the manuscript and what you think you have written isn't sometimes what you have actually written! Furthermore, that characters don't always know what is best for themselves, and you have to have a plan before you start and then let the world build up around you!

In reading through my manuscript, I started to evaluate and critically appraise my writing. I started using a story board as I was working through the changes and really began brain storming where I actually wanted the story to go, because there were parts I felt needed explaining and backing up. It was also my way of making sure that things that I said in the beginning of the book were carried out and followed through so that the story made sense.

I always knew the story would be a romance and that it would be centered around a couple that would be young adults. The plot was centered around a voyage of self-discovery about themselves, and what obstacles were in their way to true love. I wanted the story to show how to overcome your fears, and how to face unexpected challenges that life throws at you with a mix of fantasy thrown in. When in your darkest moments  you think you will fail something inside makes you push through and try harder, that is the power that true love can provide.

True love is the strongest magic and a powerful source of energy that can sway the balance of evil and all that is good. Mia and her love Ryder have a journey full of hurdles they both have to overcome. Mia is tested to the brink of insanity and life itself.
In 2009, I made a promise to myself that I would write the story that invaded my head and dreams. This is only the beginning.

Book Cover!

Hi Everyone,

I have been on vacation for the past two weeks and having a blast as I traveled to Las Vegas and then drove through Death Valley, Yosemite, San Francisco, and Big Sur with my family. To end the trip, we spent a couple of lazy days in San Diego lolling about on the beach!

The vacation may well be over but I'm still in holiday mood.

Whilst I was away, I celebrated my birthday, my wedding anniversary, and my book cover art !!!! Seeing the beautiful art work that Dawne Dominique created for my first YA romantic fantasy book was electrifying and I couldn't keep my eyes off the picture .

I love it and hope you do too?

That's it for this week as I have to unpack and get everyone ready for school! As soon as I have news of the date for the book release and can post excerpts, I will be right on it.

As part of the blog hop, all of us are answering the same four questions about our writing process. So here goes!
                               1.What am I working on?
As a newly signed author with Secret Cravings, my first YA romantic fantasy called Children of Annwn: The Promise is due for release in September. At the moment, I waiting for my editor to return the manuscript  for me to work on the edits. In the meantime, I am working on the second book in the trilogy.

Seventeen-year-old Mia Childs always knew her visions meant trouble, but when her dream boy Ryder turns up in real-life, all her secrets coming tumbling out, even the fact that she isn’t human.
                                          2. how does your work differ from others in your genre?

That's a tough one! I just interviewed Claudy Conn, an amazing paranormal and historical romance writer, and she undertakes a lot of research before she pens her stories. She reads the information until she knows it. Well, I have a confession. I read books in my genre, and I print out a lot of information that I use to back up what I am saying in the story to add details, but I also look up things as I am writing, because  my mind will ask questions as the story is progressing, so my research is on-going! Like, Claudy Conn, though, I have ideas for writing stories in different genre's and the reason I chose her as my example is because I have a WIP called Capturing the Last Welsh Witch, and it's an adult paranormal! I'm at 40,000.

3.Why do you write what you write?

Hm, since I was a teenager, I have loved reading romance novels. I love the historicals and would love one day to perhaps have a go at writing one, but I also love fantasy and paranormal! Ideas for stories simply come to me, and I like to try different genres. I guess, I'm discovering what suits me best as a writer. I have a paranormal on the go, two more books for the YA romantic fantasy series to write, an erotic, in a very rough draft, a short story I'm revamping, and an idea for an adult novel that is ?? title, The Seventeen Year Itch!

4.How does your writing process work?

Every day I have a plan! That plan is to write! I would like to say that I write for so many hours every day, but that doesn't always happen. Every day is different! My day begins early. I am usually the first one up, and the best time to write, for me, is the morning after a strong cup of tea. When the kids are in school, I have trained myself to sit and write for several hours. The hardest part is not to go back and make edits straight away, but to let the free-flowing writing do its magic! I will write in the evening if the writing is going well, and occasionally my husband is known to let me write at the weekend if I was aiming for deadline. Below, is a picture of my office, and I love it. The blinds open and close as dictated by the amount of sun, music is selective and always in the background, unless I need total silence, when I need to concentrate and brain storm and then no one can bother me or beware!

Below is a list of wonderful authors joining me on this blog hop and they will be posting on the 12th August.

Interview with author Claudy Conn.

Hi everyone, I recently decided that I wanted to start a regular segment on the blog in which I interview writers about their craft, something that as a writer, I am fascinated with. Plus, I get to chat with some amazing people!

Today, I have the greatest pleasure in introducing Claudy Conn author of over 40 BESTSELLERS for Random House, Doubleday, and Zebra in the past, but now she has become an Indie Author.
I love absolutely love her writing and admire her talent so much after reading several of her books namely, Lady Star, Shadowlove-Stalkers, Myriah Fire, and Runaway heart.

One of the best things about being a writer is connecting with other writers, and I am totally obsessed with what makes them tick and how they came into being! Before, I begin the interview can you please tell us a little about yourself?

Absolutely, I live in NC just over the border in Myrtle Beach. I am a native New Yorker, and I live with my husband, Bob, our wolf, Cherokee, and his son Rocky Man, who weighs approximately 190lbs
. I love horses and riding. I raised my ten-year-old gelding Southern Pride from birth. I also love gardening, swimming, skiing, hiking, and travel as well as reading, writing, but No arithmetic!
Jen-Thanks for sharing that with us. You have a wolf!!!
Claudy-We have a friend who lives near Asheville, NC. He rescued McKenzie Grey wolves years and years ago and then to help their upkeep, he started a breeding program with German Shep. and Belgium Sheps. and sold the pups to police all over the country as police dogs. Our wolf is a 3/4 wolf 1/4 german shep. But she has no characteristics of a dog. her son (we bred her to a Beligum Shep of his) and had 5 puppies from her but were only able to keep one for obvious reasons. He is huge, 200 pounds and as tall as a small pony. She is also huge, 120 pds. She is so interesting, but it isn't anything I would recommend to anyone. Takes so much understand as they are not obedient. Very independent and 20% smarter than a dog. Her son is all dog. We can't find her in him at all. And sometimes, she confuses him. Very fun.

One of the things that always fascinate me about writers is how they decided to write?
Claudy-I was in my early twenties when the need to put all the things in my head onto paper.
Jen       -I think that is great that at such an age you knew what you wanted to do and went for it. I didn’t start writing until much later, but felt that desperate need to off load the ideas bouncing around inside my head.

How do you research for a new story?
Claudy- I need to know the history, read letters of the times (if it is a historical) so that I get a feel for the spoken language. I research the myths and the legends for my paranormal until I know them without having to flip a page.
Jen-Me too!

You write in different genres, namely paranormal and historical, is it easy to swap hats like that or does one require more work than the other?
Claudy-Yes, for me it is. When I am in one of my historical stories, I as I said, have a feel for the language of the era and just block out anything else.
Jen-I would love to try to write a historical novel as I love reading them. I just finished reading Barbara Bretton’s Fire’s Lady which I loved! Great story, and strong characters. A page turner.

Which genre do you prefer to write in?
Claudy- Paranormal. I like a kick-ass heroine and you just can’t do that (totally) in my historical romances.
Jen-My first full length novel is a romantic fantasy and my WIP is a paranormal, not sure if I have a favourite.

I have read several of your books that are part of a series. Do you plan the series from the first book or do you write the first book and see where it leads before you know what will happen next?
Claudy-I know when I start a series, where I am going and how I want to get there.
Jen- With Children of Annwn:The Promise, the first book in a trilogy, I had an idea, but not set in stone. Working on book 2 I have a better idea of where I am now headed, but things can still change!

How many books do you write a year?
Claudy- Ooh, I don’t count.
Jen-I love that you don’t count, you write a lot!

Why do you give away some of your stories?
Claudy- I love my readers and before they have to spend a dime, I like to introduce them to my style and give them a chance to decide if they want more of my work.
Jen-I think that is great if you are a prolific writer and have many books to let your reader’s sample. However, my first book has taken me 5 years to write to give it away for FREE would break my heart. Maybe, for like a day for a special offer, I don’t know I’m not there yet!

How do you market your books?
Claudy- Hmm, it is a competitive market and very difficult to reach readers, so one has to be versatile. Social media, some romance sites, bloggers.
Jen-I’m very new, so I spend time connecting on all social media sites and will be arranging I guess book signings and aiming to get my books in the libraries.

Are you a RWA member and if so what are the benefits?
Claudy- I am not. I am not much of a herd animal. I scribble all the time. I write whenever I can and then I send it off to my editor and get it into production when it is ready.
Jen-I am not a member, but I am considering joining for the connections.

What is the future for you as a writer?
Claudy-I love writing. It is who I am. Even if the world came to a sudden halt, I would go on writing.
Jen-Well said! I love writing too and as long as I have ideas for stories and I am granted time to write them this is what I plan for my future too!

Thank you so much for the lovely interview and I wish you all the best with your future stories, and thanks for connecting with me.
